Discover one of West Texas' finest wineries and event venues. McPherson Cellars grows their own grapes, and produces their own wine in Lubbock, TX. This month, I worked with Alyce Ester at Culinary Thyme to develop wine pairings for her April recipes.

Understanding the Context

My pairings were three new vintage wines from McPherson Cellars to commemorate the release of their 2010 wines. It was one heck of the year for Texas grapes. 1615 Texas Ave, Lubbock, TX 79401, USA.Uh yea were here for the same reason as everyone else, to drink wine! Finally we start the wine tasting and the guy pretends to be very unknowledgeable of the wines.

Key Insights

According to Madi White wine educator at McPherson Cellars, “Two Chemistry professors, specializing in soil science and plant physiology, planted Sangiovese grapes back in the late 1960s.” McPherson Cellars is located in Lubbock and is owned by Kim McPherson. McPherson Cellars opened in the fall of 2008 and makes Texaswine. To think "Texas" is to conjure cowboys drinking whiskey and beer and eating BBQ. But the state is also the fifth largest wine producer in the United States, and Texaswineries- more than 500 of them- are drawing tourists and crowds.
